Cyclonic storm crosses Myanmar coast: Ports lower signals


Dhaka, Apr 17 – The cyclonic storm ‘Maarutha’ formed over the east-central bay off Myanmar coast moved slightly northeastwards further and crossed the coast near Sandoway early Monday.It is likely to move northeastwards further and weakened into a land deep depression by giving precipitation, said a Met Office bulletin.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower their signal number.
All the fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till this evening. – UNB

Human ‘traffickers’ held in Sylhet: 2 women rescued
Dhaka, Apr 17 – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested three suspected members of a human-trafficking gang and rescued two women from Gotatikar village under Mogla Bazar thana of Sylhet on Sunday night.
A team of Rab-9 conducted a raid on a house, owned by Ataur Rahman, at the village around 11:30pm and arrested the gang members Zakir, 35, hailing from Noakhali district, Ekhlasur, 27, hailing from Kanaighat upazila and Solaiman, 29, Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet, said a Rab official here.
The Rab members also rescued two female trafficking victims from the house. – UNB
