The Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka on Thursday deferred the date for BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to declare in her self-defence under section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to November 3 in the Zia Charitable Trust Graft case filed against four persons including the BNP Chief. Judge Abu Ahmed Jamader of the court passed order granting the time petition of the defence at the makeshift court set up on the old city’s Bakshibazar area. The court also asked the BNP leader to appear in the court on that fixed date.
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Tejgaon Model Police Station accusing the four of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources. Other three accused persons are Harris Chowdhury, Ziaul Islam Munna, Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to Harris, Monirul Islam Khan and APS to Sadeque Hossain Khoka, mayor of the erstwhile combined Dhaka City Corporation. -Special Correspondent
