Dawn-to-dusk road blockade passing off peacefully


The dawn-to-dusk road blockade, enforced by Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad (PBCP) protesting the killing of a motorcycle driver in Matiranga upazila, is underway peacefully in the district on Monday.Activists of PBCP picketed in different places of the district since early morning.

Vehicular moment, except for rickshaw and battery-run easy-bike, remained suspended during the blockade.There were no report of major violence from anywhere as of filing this report at 1 pm.Additional police were deployed in different points of the district town to maintain law and order.The announcement for the dawn-to-dusk blockade was made from a rally organised in Chengi Square area of the district town protesting the incident.Speakers at the rally demanded the arrest and punishment of those involved in the killing.Earlier, police recovered the body of Azizul Haque Shanto, son of Saleh Ahmed of Natunpara, from Richang Jharna area in Matiranga upazila on Sunday morning.Shanto, who used to drive bike on hire went missing on February 18.Agitated people blocked the Khagrachhari-Chittagong highway at noon following the incident.Police also arrested a suspect, Dhon Bikash Tripura, in connection with the murder, said Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Matiranga Police Station. -UNB, Khagrachhari
