Detectives have cracked the sensational Bakhtiar murder case as they arrested four alleged killers of the A level student from the city on Saturday night. The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police also recovered a revolver used in the killing.

Criminals barged into the house of Zahid Al Latif Khoka, the owner of Al-Sajeda Filling Station, in the city’s Jatrabari area on September 12 and shot his son Bakhtiar Mohammad Latif to death. Following investigation, three DB teams started simultaneous drives at Mugda and Jatrabari from 7:05 pm on Saturday.

During the drives, the plainclothes police arrested four robbers — Md Khalil, 34, Md Akhtar, 35, Rustam Ali Hawlader, 50, and Jalal Uddin, 45. They also recovered a revolver loaded with four bullets from their possession. A gang of criminals stormed into the house of Zahid through the back gate in the early hours of September 12. They shot Bakhtiar as he tried to resist them, leaving him injured.

Later, they looted some valuables, including gold ornaments and cash, and fled the scene jumping over the boundary wall. Bakhtiar was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. – UNB
