Doob goes to Shanghai International Film Festival

Weeks back, Doob: No Bed of Roses was selected for another elite film festival, the Moscow International Film Festival.

Mostafa Sarwar Farooki’s latest film Doob: No Bed of Roses has been selected for the main competition section of another major film festival, Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). Variety and The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film, starring Irrfan Khan and Tisha, is all set to compete for the coveted Golden Goblet Awards.

Weeks back, Doob: No Bed of Roses was selected for another elite film festival, the Moscow International Film Festival, competition section. However, Shanghai International Film Festival will take place earlier than that of Moscow, from June 17 to 26.

Two-time Palm d’or and one time Oscar winner, Bill August (Pele the Conqueror) is leading the competition titles with his new film The Chinese Widow. Hong Kong master, Ann Hui and Silver Lion winner, Cai Sangjun are amongst the notable contenders. A total of 15 films have been selected for the main competition from Germany, USA, Russia, China, Iran, Bangladesh, India, Philippines, Romania, Poland, Italy, Japan and UK.

Romanian new wave filmmaker, Cristian Mungiu has been announced as the president of the jury that will decide the winner of SIFF’s annual Golden Goblet Awards. Mungiu is joined by Chinese director Cao Baoping and screenwriter Li Qiang, American-Macedonian filmmaker Milcho Manchevski, Japanese director Sabu, American producer Gary Michael Walters and Chinese actress Xu Qing.

The Golden Goblet Awards will be handed over during a closing ceremony to be held on June 25.

A representative to the filmmaker confirmed that Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, actor Irrfan Khan, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Parno Mittra, producers Ashok Dhanuka, Abdul Aziz, and Himanshu Dhanuka will represent the film at the festival.
