DU lab asstt 3 more held for alleged help to ‘militants’


Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan police in separate drives arrested a Lab assistant of Dhaka University and three other people involved in chemicals business from different parts of the city on Thursday for their alleged involvement in supplying chemicals to militant groups.
The arrested people are Lab assistant of Soil Science, Water and Environment department of DU Gazi Md Babul, owner of Asia Scientific shop Ripon Mullah, manager of Western Scientific company Mohiuddin and owner of FM Chemical and sons Md Nasir Uddin.Briefing to reporters at DMP media Centre on Friday, Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul said after interrogating several bomb experts of Harkatul Jihad Al Islamia Bangladesh (HUJI-B) and Ansarullah Bangla team, who were arrested on June 7, detectives got names of the four arrested people.
The arrested militant leaders revealed that they used to purchase chemicals from the arrested people in exchange of money, the Joint Commissioner (DB) said.
Following their information, detectives conducted simultaneous drives in different areas on Thursday and arrested them, he added.
There 350 authorized explosives and chemical companies in the city. According to existing policy, they can supply those in industries and educational institutions after scrutinizing legal documents.
During interrogation, the arrested people revealed that they had been supplied chemicals to the militant groups in exchange of money without verifying their identities as well as legal documents, he said. – News Desk
