Effective social movement for preventing corruption stressed


There is no alternative to launching an effective social movement, involving everybody, against corruption for further accelerating development in building a corruption-free developed Bangladesh.Zila Parishad Administrator and Acting President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said this while addressing an anti-corruption view-sharing meeting here on Monday as the chief guest. The District Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC) with the assistance of District Combined Office of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and RDRS Bangladesh, an NGO, organised the meeting at Begum Rokeya auditorium in the city.The meeting was arranged under the Justice Reform and Corruption Prevention (JRCP) Project being implemented with German Development Cooperation (GIZ) funding under assistance of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.Government and NGO officials, teachers and members of advisory committees of Integrity Units from 25 secondary schools, union chairmen and secretaries, members of District CPC and Union Community Policing Forums, lawyers and journalists participated in the meeting with President of District CPC Professor Mozammel Haque in the chair.The participants placed emphasis on building a corruption-free society in line with spirit of War of Liberation through establishing transparency and stopping misuse of power and public money.Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said prevention of corruption is not possible only through creation of law; the people from all walks of life should have to launch a vigorous social movement to reduce corruption from every sphere of society.BSS, Rangpur
