Despite rainy weather, Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated across the country with much enthusiasm and religious fervour.
Eid prayers were offered at different mosques and eidgahs across the country in the morning.
As usual, the largest eid congregation was held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district at 10am with lakhs of Muslims offering prayers seeking divine blessings, peace and progress for the country.
In the capital, the main eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah near the High Court at 8:30am. President Abdul Hamid joined the eid jamaat.After the early morning special eid prayers, Muslims across the country started celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr in full gear greeting each other saying ‘Eid Mubarak’.
Back from prayers amid rains, they visited friends, relatives, neighbours and ‘Murabbis’ who are the eldest members of the families.
These activities will continue also tomorrow (Sunday) as Muslims enjoy a three-day eid holiday that comes after a month-long dawn-to-dusk fasting.
The weather is likely to remain the same across the country over the next 24 hours, according to the Met Office.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina exchanged Eid greetings with diplomats, politicians and eminent citizens at Bangabhaban and Ganabhaban respectively.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia exchanged eid greetings with party leaders and a cross-section of people.
Meanwhile, millions of city dwellers left the capital and other major cities to celebrate the eid with their near and dear ones in their village homes.unb
