Dhaka, Sept 1 – Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on Saturday. Well-off Muslims will sacrifice animals commemorating Hazrat Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah as illustrated by his readiness to give up his beloved son Hazrat Ismail.
All the necessary preparations for holding Eid congregations and celebrations have been completed across the country, including capital Dhaka and Sholakia in Kishoreganj.
Hundreds of thousands of Muslims will offer prayers there seeking divine blessings, peace and progress for the country.
The main congregation of Eid-Ul-Azha will be held at the National Eidgah at 8 am on Saturday.
Besides, a total of five Eid congregations will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, according to a press release issued by the Islamic Foundation. The jamaats will be held at 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, 10 am and 10:45 am, the release added.
Meanwhile, sacrificial animal traders made brisk business at all the temporary ‘haats’ make-shift markets organised in capital Dhaka. The price of cattle in the city’s haats witnessed a rise on Friday, the last day before Eid ul Azha, as their supply appeared lower relative to demand in the makeshift markets in the capital.
Majibur Rahman, president of Bangladesh Cattle Traders’ Association, said traders of the haats in the capital sold out a good number of cattle to the retailers of Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Feni, Comilla and Sylhet districts at wholesale prices on Thursday.
Majubur also revealed cattle sellers purchased fewer of the sacrificial animals this year due to the extreme flood, warning of the possibility of a crisis caused by lack of the markets of the capital.
The officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station Omar Faruk, however, said there were enough cattle at the Kamalapur and Mugdha haats to meet demand. – UNB
