Dhaka – The holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of
the Muslims, will be celebrated throughout the country on October 16
as the moon for the Hijri month of Zilhaj has been sighted in the sky
of Bangladesh.
The Eid-ul-Azha falls on the 10th day of Zil-Hajj marking the end of Hajj.
The National Moon Sighting Committee announced the decision after
sighting the moon of Jilhaj on Sunday evening.
The Committee came up with the decision after a meeting held at the
Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram conference room at about 6:30pm.
Director General of Islamic Foundation of Bangladesh, Shamim Mohammad
Afzal, who presided over the meeting, made the announcement at a press
conference on Sunday at 6:50pm.
The Middle East countries including Saudi Arabia will celebrate
Eid-ul-Azha on October 15, as the moon was sighted over there on
Saturday.
The Eid-ul-Azha commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to
follow Allah`s command to sacrifice his son Ismail. People now
sacrifice animals.
