BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday expressed his optimism that the new leadership of the party would bring to success to the future movement.“We are hopeful that our democratic movement will must bring successes,” he said while talking to reporters after visiting ailing former national footballer Ainul Haque at his Jhikatola residence.
The BNP leader said the election of new leadership following the sixth national conference has revived the party which was facing an adverse situation.Replying to a question, he said a large number of party leaders and activists were killed and thousands were poured in prisons during the present government.
“Under such a circumstance, our sixth national council has resurrected the party,” he said. The national council was held on March 19 in the city.
His came a day after BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia appointed new seven joint secretaries general and nine organising secretaries.
Earlier on March 30, she appointed Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as full=time secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi as senior joint secretary general and Mizanur Rahman Sinha as treasurer.
The councillors authorised Khaleda Zia to nominate new central leaders of the party.
Fakhrul strongly criticized the government for its decision to increase the prices of power and gas.
He alleged that the government has been increasing the charges of electricity and gas step by step after it assumed power.
The BNP leader observed that the prices of power and gas are being hiked to rob the peoples money to justify their corruption.
He warned that the BNP would be forced to launch movement if the government increase their prices again.
BNP leaders- Abdus Salam, Nasiruddin Asim and former footballer Aminul Islam, among others, were present on the occasion.
