Eliminate gender discrimination from every family: speakers

Speakers at a discussion here have stressed for eliminating gender discrimination from every family to prevent domestic violence once for all for flourishing women leadership for equal women rights and empowerment.

They were addressing the discussion in the district assembly organised by ‘Pollisree’, an NGO, and District Changemaker Alliance (DCA) on Monday afternoon at Police Hall auditorium for the women entrepreneurs, women leaders and change makers.

Member of the Parliament from reserved constituency Advocate Hose Ara Lutfa Dalia attended the discussion as the chief guest with Executive Director of the NGO Shameem Ara Begum in the chair.

President of DCA Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu delivered welcome speech narrating the present situation of domestic violence against women and essence for eliminating all social curses to establish equal women rights.

Additional Police Super Joynul Abedin, teacher of Begum Rokeya University Meer Tamanna Siddika, Medical Officer of Family Planning Association of Bangladesh Dr Samorpita Ghosh Tanya addressed as the special guests.

Project Coordinator of ‘Pollisree’ Shahnaz Parveen, its Programme Facilitator Rezaul Karim Reza, its Advisers Mahbubul Islam and Ahsan Habib Rabu, Humaira Akhter Banu of Gangachara Dondara Adolescents’ Group addressed.

Convener of Taraganj President Upazila Changemaker Committee Mokhlesar Rahman Shah, President of Kawnia Women’s Club Archana Rani, Ethnic Community women leader of Mithapukur upazila Teresina Recreation, also spoke.

Project Coordinator of ‘Pollisree’ Shahnaz Parveen, Member of DCA Mahmuda Akhter Sharifa and Manager of “Pollisree” Suraiya Akhter, its Chief Accountant Rezwan Ali and Programme Facilitator Rezaul Karim Reza coordinated the district assembly.

Earlier, the chief guest launched the district assembly through hoisting of the national flag, releasing balloons and lighting candles in presence of hundreds of the women entrepreneurs, women leaders and change makers from all over the district.

The speakers stressed for launching social movement with a changed mindset for preventing domestic violence against women in flourishing women leadership to ensure equal women rights for peace in every family to attain sustainable national uplift.

The chief guest stressed for ensuring equal rights, honour, dignity, safety and security of the womenfolk in the process of achieving sustainable national development for building of a peaceful society.

She suggested for bringing faster social change through eradicating gender disparity for ensuring equal women rights through enhancing participation of the womenfolk in the sociopolitical and economic sectors to attain sustainable national uplift.
