Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed, convenor of Adarsha Dhaka Andolon, yesterday reiterated his demanded to deploy army in Dhaka and Chittagong during the ensuing three city corporation polls scheduled to be held on April 28.He made the demand while speaking at a discussion meeting of Democratic Council at Jatiya Press Club.
“The polls in Dhaka and Chittagong are being held in an unusual situation. The election is a challenge for us. So, we will urge the Election Commission to deploy the army one week before the polling takes place so that voters could cast their ballots without any intimidation,” he said.
The former vice chancellor of Dhaka University called upon the voters to guard the ballot boxes to stop tailoring of results.
“I am sure that we will overcome in all the three city mayoral posts in the lection is held in a free and fair manner and voters could franchise their rights,” he added.
Emajuddin said they do not want to make any complain against the EC rather they want the commission conducts the polls without any interference in a proper manner efficiently.
Presided over by MA Halim, president of the organisation, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by BNP chairperson’s adviser Barrister Haider Ali, Prof Mamun Ahmed, Abu Naser Rahmatullah, Barrister Parvej Ahmed and Md Anwar. – Staff Reporter
