Extend support to coastal people: Democracy on life-support – Bnp

Dhaka – The BNP on Friday asked the party leaders and workers, and physicians to extend their hands to the coastal area people affected by cyclone Roanu that left many people killed and caused huge losses to them.
“Wherever the party leaders and activists and physicians of DAB, I urge you all to come forward to serve the humanity. Assist the disaster affected people,” said standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.He was addressing a discussion meeting at National Press Club. Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a pro-BNP doctors platform, organised the meeting to mark the 35th death anniversary of party founder late President Ziaur Rahman.
The BNP leader also called upon the government to apply its all-out efforts and assist the coastal people to save their lives and property.
He accused the government of depriving the people from their voting rights saying that the present government came to power without votes declaring it elected.
“Indeed, the democracy in the country is now in life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU),” he said.
The BNP leader recalled the contribution of Ziaur Rahman particularly in introducing multi-party democracy in the country.
He put emphasis the need for restoration of democracy and follow the ideology of Ziaur Rahman.
Presided over by AKM Azizul Haque, president of the organisaiton, the meeting also spoke maon others, by Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, secretary general of DAB and former lawmaker Dipen Dewan. – Staff Reporter
