First-ever 4-wheeler e-rickshaw services launched in Natore

Natore, Nov 29 – Four-wheeler electronic rickshaw and ambulance services were launched for the first time in the country to mitigate the risk of climate change effects. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the e-rickshaw services titled ‘Cholo’ at Singra Municipality Chattar on Friday afternoon.
Two ambulances and eight e-rickshaws are financially and technically supported by Germany’s TUMI (Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative).
Singra Municipality Mayor Jannatul Ferdousi said no charge is needed for patients but passengers have to pay a specific amount. These e-rickshaws are modern versions of present easy-bikes.
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Deputy Country Director Werner Lange and many other guests from home and abroad were present at the inaugural ceremony.
According to TUMI, Singra lacks proper public transportation systems within the city. Privately owned, illegal rickshaw updates (electrification) led to a safety issue with increasing accidents, it said.
“The project aims to improve the city’s public transportation system as well as the health services and make the streets safer,” it said. “Singra citizens and the municipality will benefit from the new system.” – UNB
