Five BAU students assaulted by BCL


Mymensingh – Junior activists of Shaeed Nazmul Ahsan Hall Bangladesh Chaatra League (BCL), chapter of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) threatened and physically assaulted five students over giving floral wreaths with Journalists’ association on Thursday night.Victim was identified first year students Mehedi Hasan of agriculture faculty, Zahid Hasan, Rakibul Hasan of Fisheries faculty, second year student of Shahriar Amin and Arif Hossain of Veterinary faculty.
Chaatra League Activists Anik Ferdous of Fisheries faculty and Tanvir Shakil of Agricultural Engineering and Technology beat up and threatened students with the help of Md Yeasin and Mashur Ahmed of Agricultural Engineering and Technology. All are second year students of Shaeed Nazmul Ahsan hall.
Earlier, third year Chaatra League Activists Rakibul Hasan Hridoy of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, Md Monir, Rokunazzaman Riad, Abu Nayem of Agriculture faculty with the leading of Shaeed Hossain of Agriculture faculty called first year students in guest room asking them why they gave floral wreaths at Shaeed Minar in Amar Ekushey February programme with journalists.
BCL activists also threatened them not to join any other organization beside BCL and they would have to stay in the hall with life risk if they join in journalism or any other organization.
Victim students’ afternoon lodged a written complaint against those BCL activists, with BAU proctor, seeking justice on the incident.
BAU proctor AKM Zakir Hossain said, necessary step will be taken after investigation.
Students allegedly said that first year students of the resident were tortured physically and mentally by senior BCL activists till late night. Even they are beat up with the same batch students and do practical and assignment note books by BCL activists.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Ali Akbar told, “Students should express their talents by creating good communication with all organizations of the university.”
The Vice-Chancellor, however, told that he would talk with the university proctor to take necessary steps against the accused. – BAU Correspondent
