Five electrocuted in three northern districts


Five persons, including a housewife, were electrocuted amid inclement weather at different places in Rangpur, Lalmonirhat and Thakurgaon districts on Saturday afternoon, police and local sources said.In Rangpur, Fatema Begum, 46, wife of Atiar Rahman of village Khordobagbar Gomostapara under Badarganj upazila was electrocuted after being caught by torn electric cable while going to her nearby chili field.In Lalmonirhat, Abdul Khaleque, 40, son of Sakir Uddin and his nephew Zahidul Islam, 12, son of Khalilur Rahman of village Madhdhya Guddimari under Hatibandha upazila were electrocuted to death in their bamboo cluster. Both of them died after being caught by torn electric cables while working in the nearby bamboo cluster amid continuous rains.In Thakurgaon, two persons were killed in separate incidents of electrocution at different villages under Sadar upazila amid inclement weather.Electrician Mazharul Islam, 30, son of Habib Uddin of village Shalapiyala died after being electrocuted while working with high voltage electric supply line.
In another incident, farmer Ful Babu, 40, of village Chondipur was electrocuted to death as soon as he touched the electrified corrugated tin-shed at their house amid inclement weather, the sources said. -BSS, Rangpur
