Flood situation improves in Faridpur

The overall flood situation in the district has improved remarkably today as the water level in the river Padma receded further and flowing one centimeter below the danger level.

Water Development sources said the Padma is now flowing at 8.64 meter, which is one centimeter below the danger level.

Although the water level has went down, erosion has taken a serious turn in the district. The mighty river Padma has devoured Hukum Ali Chowkdar government primary school under Char Jhaukanda union of Charbhadrasan upazila on Sunday.

According to official sources, so far 295 metric tons of rice and a cash of Taka 6.10 lakhs were distributed in twenty unions of six upazilas of the district. According to an official estimate around 19,741 families of the district were affected by the flood water.

Besides the flood water caused damage to crops, homesteads, embankment and road communication network. The loss of standing crops and vegetables is also very alarming, the sources added.

The affected upazilas are – Faridpur Sadar, Charbhadrasan, Sadarpur, Bhanga and Madhukhali and Nagarkanda.
