BNP yesterday expressed deep concern over conviction of 28 party leaders and activists in different jail terms in a “politically motivated” case in Sirajganj.“We are extremely frustrated and aggrieved at the verdict. We also express deep concern over it,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a statement.
His statement came a day after a speedy trial tribunal sentenced 15 BNP-Jamaat activists to life term imprisonment and 13 others to different jail terms in a violence case filed in Sirajganj in 2013.
He said the sentence has been given in continuation of filing politically motivated cases against opposition leaders and activists
The BNP leader said the countrymen have been terrorized because the misrule of the ruling Awami League and inhuman activities.
He however warned that the conspiracy to destroy the BNP by resorting to terrorism on its activists would never be successful.
Meanwhile, addressing a protest rally at Maulana Bhasani auditorium, BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman said the government implicated party chairperson Khaleda Zia in a sedition case in a bid to foil the party’s planned national council.
“The government wants to keep Khaleda busy through psychological harassment so that we cannot hold the council properly,” he said.
As part of three-day protest programmes, the Krishak Dal organised the meeting protesting filing of sedition case against the former premier.
Presided over by Nasir Haider, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Taqdir Hossain Jasim.
Noman said they would amend party’s charter in the council, if necessary, to form a fresh strong and vibrant committee to ensure the fall of this regime through a successful movement.
