Dhaka, April 10 – The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka Tuesday granted a three-day remand for five suspects each on the charge of their involvement in the gang-rape of a female garment worker in a moving bus at Dhamrai Upazila of Dhaka district.Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdur Rahman of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka, passed the order after hearing on an appeal of Inspector Md Jakaria, Officer-in- Charge of Dhamrai Police Station. He prayed for a seven-day remand for questioning the accused persons.
The suspects are bus driver Babu Mollick, 24, who was arrested from Jatri Seba transport service, and his accomplices Balram Das, Abdul Aziz, Sohel and Mokbul Hossain.
Earlier on Monday, the garment worker gave a statement to Judicial Magistrate Monika Khan under the Criminal Procedure Code about the rape incident.
Police arrested the five suspects and recovered the rape victim from Kachmach neighbourhood of Dhamrai Upazila on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway around midnight on Sunday.
Dhamrai Police Station Sub-Inspector Moloy Saha told newsmen, the woman got into the local bus named Jatri Seba from Islampur bus-stand at night. Almost all of the passengers, except the five suspects, disembarked at the Kalampur bus stand. The helper closed the door and the driver began driving aimlessly.
“Five of the bus staff raped the girl one after another. On hearing the victim’s scream, nearby petrol pump workers informed the police. Later, four units of police chased the bus and rescued her from the Kachmach area,” he added. – Special Correspondent
