Gas cyllinder blast burns a passenger bus in Dhaka City

Dhaka – A bus burned down due to a gas cylinder explosion near Shahbag area of Dhaka around 12 pm on Wednesday creating panic on the road.The bus named Midway which plied on the Mohammadpur–Arambagh route in Dhaka was gutted in the fire created by the blast.
No one injured in the accident as passengers’ saw fume before the bus was fully engulfed in fire and all passengers manage to get out of the bus safely.
Eyewitnesses said the bus was other transport vehicles on the busy road near the PG Hospital (BSMMU). All on a sudden smoke was coming from the gas cylinder around 12 pm. The passengers of the bus and those of other vehicles that were near it left the place. The fire was gushing out from the cylinder and spread to the whole bus.
The explosion had caused traffic jam until 1 pm and it creates panic among the passengers and general people passing by the road.
Abdul matin a passenger on that bus said, “Luckily we saw the fume otherwise we would have been dead in the charred bus. The bus was not fit and usually, the unfit buses are the main causes behind this kind of accident. Government should take stapes about this kind of unfit buses and their owners,” said some onlookers
Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service South (Palashi Barrack) Abdul Halim said, “We are assuming that the explosion has taken place due to leakage of gas from the cylinder. We have got phone call from national emergency service ‘999’ at 12.07pm and rushed to the spot at 12.22pm.”
“Fire is under control by then. All the passengers remained safe”, he added.
Officer in charge of Shahabag Thana Abul Hasan said, “No one has lodged any complaint. That’s why we have not filed any case about the accident.” – News Desk
