Gayeshwar lands in jail after surrender

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Wednesday sent BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy to jail after he surrendered to the in a murder case filed with Rampura Police Station.Judge Qamrul Hossain Molla passed the order rejecting Gayeshwar’s bail petition.

On Tuesday, the court issued arrest warrant against 35 BNP leaders including Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Vice-Chairman of the party, Sadeque Hossain Khoka.

The court took cognizance of the charge sheet of the murder case on Tuesday. Twenty-one accused of the case including Sadeque Hossain Khoka were shown fugitives while 14 other accused, who secured bail from the court did not appear to the court on Tuesday. On the day, the court issued warrants against these 35 accused of the case.

On March 29, 2013, Mansur Pradhaniya was killed during vandalism and arson attack that allegedly occurred during BNP-Jamaat alliance sponsored ‘March for Democracy’ programme in the city.

On March 20 of this year, police submitted the charge sheet of the murder case to the court. The case was filed with Rampura Police Station against 49 people including Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Salauddin Ahmed, Habibur Rahman Habib and Shafiqul Islam Badsha.
