Gayeshwar put under 2-day fresh remand

A Dhaka court yesterday (Tuesday) placed Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on a two-day fresh remand in a case filed with Turag Police Station under the Special Power Act 1974.
Magistrate Rezaul Karim of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after he was shown arrested in the case on completion of another three-day remand in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with attack on Awami League’s Netrokona-1 MP Chhabi Biswas on the premises of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Earlier on Tuesday, the Detective Branch (DB) of police produced Gayeshwar to the court with a 10-day remand plea after completion of the three-day remand in the case filed over Wednesday’s violence of the city’s Bakshibazar area.
Police earlier showed Gayeshwar arrested in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station over the attack on ruling party’s Netrakona-1 MP Chhabi Biswas on the Dhaka Medical College Hospital premises.
Earlier on Friday, police picked him up from his house in city’s Siddheshwari area and DB Police took him to their office.
On Wednesday, reportedly hundreds of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists locked into a clash with BNP activists who gathered in Bakshibazar area allegedly to stage a showdown centering BNP Chief Khaleda Zia’s appearance to a makeshift court set up in the area in two graft cases filed against the BNP leader and others. – Court Correspondent
