‘Govt agents’ attack Bnp office, alleges Rizvi

Dhaka – BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday alleged that ‘government agents’ torched and vandalised their central office in the name of ‘position-deprived’ Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists.
“JCD men can’t damage the mural of their own party founder Ziaur Rahman. They also can’t undermine the BNP chairperson’s photo. Outsiders with the government backing carried out the incident,” Rizvi told reporters after the incident.
Earlier in the day, police said a group of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal men, ‘deprived of posts’ in its newly formed 736-member committee, attacked BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, torching the student body’s office and two motorcycles.
Rizvi criticised the police for what he said their ‘inactive role’ during the incident. “Though the criminals were hurling brickbats towards our office and setting fire to its third floor, police were playing the role of silent spectators. It demonstrated who carried out the incident with whose support. We think it’s the government’s planned plot against BNP.”
Referring to efforts of a group of people using the name of Asol BNP to control their office twice recently, the BNP leader said their office is coming under attacks repeatedly as part of a plot to hinder their party activities.
Rizvi also claimed that JCD leaders and activists happily accepted the new 736-member committee announced on Sunday night.- Agencies
