BNP on Wednesday alleged that the government is hiding the perpetrators of the recent target killings by creating a smokescreen in the name of a countrywide combing operation. “It’s absolutely true that Sheikh Hasina not only hates democracy but also nurtures militants across the country to hang onto power, That’s why the militants are smoothly carrying out their brutal killings and freely roaming around the country,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he also accused the Prime Minister of patronising militants to emerge in the country. “The main motive behind the current mass arrest in the name of a special drive and killing of people in the name of gunfights is to create a smokescreen to keep the real offenders in the dark.”
The BNP leader said over 2,500 leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies have been arrested during the ongoing combing operation since Friday morning. Rizvi alleged that though the law enforcers are arresting opposition leaders and activists across the country, they could not yet arrest any extremist involved in the recent target killings.
He said a question has arisen in public mind why so many innocent people are being arrested when the law enforcers cannot arrest the militants. The BNP leader also said the arrested people are going through an inhuman life in jails as those are packed with more inmates beyond their capacity to hold.
He also alleged that the country’s people are also passing their days amid panic in the holy month of Ramadan as law enforcers are arresting innocent people in the name of the combing operation only to make quick buck.
