Govt trying to establish one-party politics

BNP senior leader Abdullah Al Noman on Saturday alleged that government is trying to establish one-party politics in the country obliterating democracy.
“If one-party politics is established in the country, we along with people will restore democracy through a movement,” he said.Noman, a BNP vice chairman, came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave along with leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Tarun Dal, marking its anniversary.
He alleged that government has resorted to repressive acts and wholesale arrest of opposition leaders and activists to destroy democracy. “But, people won’t let the regime to implement its evil design.”
The BNP leader urged the nationalist forces to get united under the leadership of Khaleda Zia to restore people’s right and democracy.
He also warned that their party will foil any move by the government to relocate their founder’s grave from the parliament area by creating a strong resistance.
“Whatever parliamentary democratic practice remains will be obliterated, if the government really takes any move to shift late president Ziaur Rahman’s grave to another place,” Noman said.
According to media reports, the Housing and Public Works Ministry has recently proposed removal of eight graves of renowned personalities, including Zia’s one, from the Jatiya Sangsad area as those were not in the original design of American architect Louis I Kahn who designed Bangladesh’s national parliament complex.- UNB
