Govt won’t obstruct peaceful long march: Nasim

Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim on Wednesday said the government would not obstruct the Dhaka-bound April 6 long march of Hefazat-e-Islam if it is held peacefully.“If Hefazat-e-Islam observes their programme peacefully, the government wouldn’t obstruct it. And if they follow Islam in real sense, they will surely observe the programme peacefully,” he said.
Nasim, also former Home Minister, was addressing a press briefing after a meeting of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance at Awami League president Sheikh Hasina’s office at Dhanmondi in the city.
Earlier, Hefazat-e Islam announced a long march programme towards Dhaka for April 6 demanding the punishment of ‘atheist’ bloggers.
On the recent attacks on police by Jamaat-Shibir men in Rajshahi, the Awami League leader said, these types of attacks are being carried out to create panic in the police administration in a bid to create anarchy in the country. “Attacks on police are not only affecting the state but it’s an ominous sign for future days.”
Saying the police administration has demonstrated its failure to tackle the situation, Nasim urged the Home Minister to remove policemen who failed to discharge their duties. UNB
