‘Gunfight’ again


An alleged ringleader of an inter-district robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Kanaipur in Sadar upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Selim Sheikh, 30, of Madhukhali upazila of the district.
Acting on secret information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30 am.Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.
At one stage, Selim was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene.
However, a sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, Saiful was slightly injured in the incident.
Police also recovered one shutter gun, one foreign made pistol and one round of bullet from the spot.
Selim was wanted in several cases filed with Bhanga, Faridpur, Sadar thanas in the district and Manikganj and Savar thanas.- UNB
