‘Gunfights’ to contain law and order not acceptable: Bnp


BNP yesterday alleged that the government is trying to control the law and order situation in the country in the name of “gunfights.”
“The extrajudicial killing cannot be accepted,” said BNP spokesperson Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon while addressing a press conference at party headquarters at Naya Paltan in the city.He apprehended that opposition leaders and activists may be killed in the crossfire in the days ahead.
Ripon, also international affairs secretary, it appears from the recent killings in the crossfire and the statement of the road transport and bridge minister that the crossfire were taking place at the instigation of the government.
Criticising the government for suspending Gazipur mayor MA Mannan, he said the government is destroying the local government system through its measure.
“The government disrespected the public representative by suspending him (Mannan),” he claimed.
The BNP leader demanded the restoration of the suspended mayors and elected representatives for their own posts and the release of party leaders and activists including MK Anwar and journalist Shawkat Mahmud. – Staff Reporter
