HC issues rule on Longadu attacks

Dhaka – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Monday issued a ruling asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why they should not be directed to form an inquiry commission to find out the culprits behind arson attacks in Longadu Upazila of Rangamati district.The High Court bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order on Monday. The court also asked the government to show causes why it should not be directed to determine the damages in the attack.
Cabinet, Home, Law, Chittagong hill tracts affairs’ secretaries and the inspector general of police (IGP) have been ordered to respond to the rule within eight weeks.
On June 1, miscreants killed Rangamati’s Jubo League leader Nurul Islam Nayan in a bid to snatch his motorbike and to sell it out. Later, the settlers, blaming the hill people for Nayan’s death, set fire to houses and shops of the hill people on June 2. – Special Correspondent
