HC scraps Haimchar UP chairman’s bail


Dhaka – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday scrapped the bail of Chandpur’s Haimchar Upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwary in a case filed for walking over a so-called ‘human bridge’.High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sahidul Karim passed the order yesterday. Earlier, the High Court questioned the legality of granting bail to Haimchar upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwary in the case that was lodged for his alleged walking over a ‘human bridge’ formed by local school students.

Abdul Kadir Gazi, a guardian of the students, filed the case against five people, including Nur Hossain, who is also the general secretary of Haimchar upazila unit Awami League, under the Children Act.
The court issued a rule asking the judge of Shishu Adalot (Child Court), Chandpur to show cause in two weeks, as to why NurHossain has been granted bail in the case.
The rule also asked the judge under which authority the bail was granted and directed the government to explain why the order of bail to Nur Hossain should not be scrapped. – Special Correspondent
