Hearing on acquittal of BNP leaders in cop killing case deferred

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka  on Thursday deferred the hearing on the acquittal of 20 leaders and activists of  20-party alliance, including BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to August 30 in a case filed for killing a police.
Earlier, on June 17, the court fixed July 30 to hear on the police report seeking acquittal of the 20 leaders and activists. Magistrate Aminul Haque passed the order as the case docket was not produced to the court Thursday. On May 17, Sub-Inspector M Bahauddin Faruki of the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court seeking for acquitting Mirza Fakhrul and 19 others in the case, saying there is not enough evidence to prove allegation against the accused.
Others who got police clean chit include include BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Mirza Abbas, Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu and Jamaat Ac ting Secretary General Dr Shafiqur Rahman.
On the night of December 24, 2013, police constable Ferdous was burnt alive while two other constables suffered burn injuries as unidentified miscreants set a police vehicle on fire by pouring petrol at Bangla Motor intersection in the capital during a countrywide dawn to dusk strike enforced by BNP.
Later, police filed the case against a group of BNP leaders and activists  including Mirza Fakhrul, with Ramna Model Police Station. – Special Correspondent
