Heavy rain disrupts life in capital Dhaka

Dhaka – Several spells of rain in the morning and evening walloped the city life again on Saturday just like the last couple of days as many roads and lanes remained flooded with knee-deep water for several hours, causing immense sufferings to people, unb news agency reported.
According to officials at the Met Office, the rainfall started at 7am and continued for several hours across the city. The Met Office, meanwhile, recorded 9mm of rain in the capital, said meteorologist Abdur Rahman. The rain slowed down vehicular movement leading to nagging traffic jam on the roads from the morning and it continued till the evening.
Roads in Mirpur-10, Shenpara-Parbata and Kazipara, Rokeya Sarani, Bijoy Sharani, Moghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Kakrail, Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, Merul Badda, Rampura, Motijheel, Shyampur, Demra and Dhanmondi areas of the capital were submerged due to the rain.
A number of vehicles, particularly CNG-run ones, went out of order on the streets due to waterlogging. City dwellers suffered a lot in reaching their destinations due to the heavy traffic triggered by the torrential rains.
Commuters underwent unbearable misery while traveling through roads connecting Moghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Eskatan, Dilu Road, Siddheshwari, Shatrasta and Rampura due to the construction work as the roads are riddled and paddled with huge potholes.
“It took me around one and a half hours to reach my office in Mouchak from Kakrail Nightingale crossing due to heavy traffic jam,” said Mizanur Rahman, a private frim employee.
There seems to be no relief in sight as the Met Office forecasts there is possibility of heavy rainfall in the capital again from Sunday morning.
