Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Sunday said highest security measures have been taken to ensure smooth observance of Holy Ashura and celebration of Durga Puja.“ Some 6,803 police will be deployed for ensuring security of Puja Mandaps, while 2,500 police for Tajia processions on the day of Holy ashura in the capital. Besides, plainclothes police will also be posted alongside uniform police,’ he told reporters during a briefing on security for Durga Puja and Ashura at DMP Media Centre on Sunday.
Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, is begin today (Sunday) and it will end on the night of October 22 through idol emersion, while the holy Ashura, a religious mourning day for the Muslims, will be observed on October 24.
The DMP Commissioner said though the intelligence agencies have no specific in formation of any threat targeting the two religious programmes, but we have taken allout security measures keeping in mind of all possible threats.
“ We do not rollout for any kind of possible subversive or criminal activities. So we have taken the widespread security measures to keep in mind those possible threats,” he added.
He sought cooperation from the city dwellers for giving information regarding possible subversive or criminal activities so that the law enforcement agencies can take instant initiative in this regard.
The Chief DMP boss said all have to enter through archway to enter inside important puja mandaps, including Siddyashary temple, Dhakashawry Temple, Banani Puja Mandaps, while visitors in small puja mandam have to face checking of metal detectors.
Besides, CC TVs have already installed in every important puja mandaps as part of ensuring security measures, he added.
The DMP Commissioner requested the Hindo community for idol emersion before 6:00 pm on October 23.-News Desk
