Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Dr Mizanur Rahman yesterday questioned the sincerity of law enforcing agencies to take necessary steps to stop killing of bloggers one after another.
“How long the law enforcers will be sleeping and watching the killing of bloggers one after another,” he asked while unveiling the cover of a book at a ceremony at the Jatiya Press Club.
”Free thinking people will be killed one after another and police will say the motive behind the killing is same. How long we will hear this,” he said. The NHRC boss’s comments came a day after blogger Niloy Chakraborti was killed by a group of miscreants at his Goran residence in the city. Earlier, three more bloggers were killed in two years.
The human rights watchdog chief regretted that the members of law enforcing agencies would only say that they are trying to find out the perpetrators and unearth motives of all killings are similar.
“If the motive behind killing of all blogger is same, what are you doing for longtime after killing of bloggers one after another? Why people will have to suffer from sense of insecurity?” he sought to know.
Referring to blogger Rajib killing, Mizanur Rahman said a police official assaulted Rajib’s father when he went to the respective police station to lodge a case. “Such behaviour of a state or police cannot be acceptable in anyway,” he said.
How long we have to watch such behaviour of police? Was it the sprit of war of liberation?” he questioned.
Later, he unveiled the book “War of Liberation: Face to Truth” (Muktijoddah: Sotter Mukhomukhi) written by Prof Dr Abu Sayeed.
Eminenent columnist Syed Abul Maksud, Prof Anisuzzaman, Azhar Ali, Pramanik, Elias, Abdus Sattar, Prof Abdul Mannan and Sultan Mohammad Mansur, among others, also addressed the function. – Staff Reporter
