The three-day Dhaka International Folk Festival, an assembly of traditional music practitioners of seven countries, begins today at the Army Stadium in Dhaka.
The organisers said that the audience can enjoy the three day events beginning everyday at 6pm and continuing till midnight. Audiences have already been enlisted through free registration online. Besides local singers including ascetic bauls, professional stage performers and fusionists -singers from India, Canada, USA, Spain, France and Turkey will also perform in the event, which is being organised by Sun Events. It will be the second arrangement of the international folk festival which will feature 125 singers. Folk performers Momtaz, Shafi Mondol, Abdur Rahman, Sunil Karmakar, Farida Parveen, flutist Jalal will perform at the event. Spain’s Karen Lugo and Ricardo Morro, England’s Sushila Rahman and Sam Mills, India’s Kailash Kher, Indian Ocean will also perform in the festival.
Meril, Dhaka Bank, Microsoft Bangladesh, GP Music and Maasranga TV are co-organisers of the event. The event can be seen live on Maasranga TV and on the official facebook page and YouTube channel of the event.
Explaining the reason behind organising the festival, the organisers said that the Dhaka International Folk Festival will promote the traditional music and musicians of the country among the young listeners.
Moreover, it will promote traditional music of different countries of the world, they said.
