Teachers, students and staffs of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday (Tuesday) observed the International Women Day amid festivity and fanfare here on the campus, elsewhere in the world with a call for all to ensure women’s rights.Marking the day, a colorful rally led by JU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Farzana Islam, was brought out from the business faculty and ended at Zahir Raihan Auditorium premises after paraded the main street of the campus.
Later, JU Student Welfare and Counseling Centre (JUSWCC) arranged a seminar on the in the Jahir Raihan seminar room with the theme ‘planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it up for Gender Equality’.
Addressing on the programme as the chief guest JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam said ‘A husband can play a vital rule to progress of his wife’s status.’
‘Though the empowerment of women has seen in our society but there have a thin inequality,’ she added. The VC also urged the whole people to come forward for developing of women.
Prof. Rasheda Akhter, the director of JUSWCC, presided over the seminar while JU Pro-VC Prof Abul Hossain, JU Treasurer Prof Abul Khair and teacher of different department were attended as special guest.
Mentionable, the seminar authorities arranged various socio-cultural programmes highlighting women’s rights and the progress made by them in different sectors.
