Jamaat leader held in Sylhet over subversion


Police arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Sobhanighat area of the city on Tuesday in connection with several cases and on subversion charges.The arrestee was identified as Yasin Khan, 35, a leader of the Sylhet city unit Jamaat and law affairs secretary of Mohanagar Shramik Kollayan Federation, son of Jafor Ali Khan, a resident of Pailgaon village in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district.

Police said on secrete information a team of police led by officer-in-charge of Janagnnathpur police station Md. Mursalin and SI Mizanur Rahman conducted a drive at the area and arrested him.The OC said Yasin was wanted in 25 cases, including for murder, police assault, and planning for subversive activities.He had remained in hiding for a long time, the OC added. -UNB, Sylhet
