Dhaka – The Supreme Court on Monday asked editor of vernacular daily Janakantha, Atiqullah Khan Masud, to surrender before the lower court within seven days in a case for tampering the design of a multi-storey building in the city’s Malibagh area.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order.
The Appellate Division also allowed the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to appeal against the verdict of the High Court acquitting Atiqullah Khan Masud from the charge.
Talking to reporters after the hearing, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam said they will appeal against the verdict of the HC.
Earlier on August 9, 2007, ACC filed a case against Atiqullah Khan Masud for tampering the design of a multi-storey building in Malibagh.
In 2008, a Special Judge’s Court sentenced Atiqullah to seven years jail in the case.
Later, he appealed against the verdict.
On May 26, 2010, HC acquitted him of the charge.
