Month long Jasim Pollimela (village fair) concluded on Saturday evening here at the premises of poet Jasimuddin’s ancestral home at Gobindapur in the suburb of the town.
Faridpur Jasim Foundation and District Administration organised the fair coinciding the 114th birth anniversary of the immortal folk poet Jasimuddin.
Faridpur Zilla Parishad Chairman Md. Lokman Hossain Mridha was the chief guest in the concluding function held at the ‘Jasim Mancha’ while Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rev) Dr. Kamruzzaman Selim was in the chair.
Additional Police Super Md. Jamal Pasha and district Awami league president Advocate Subal Chandra Saha and son of the late poet Dr. Zamal Anowar were present in the function as special guests.
Addressing the function Lokman Hossain stressed the need for preserving our traditional cultural heritage for our national progress and identity. He said the village fair is a praiseworthy venture of the organizers to preserve our heritage as well as a source of enjoyment for the rural people.
He further said that with rapid urbanization we are going to forget our rich traditional culture projected by Jasimuddin through his writings to remind our past. The urban culture in true sense failed to fulfill our natural demand of our soul as Bangalee.
The function was also addressed by Sramik League president Akkas Hossain Mia and Awami League leaders Abdur Razzak Molla, Shamsul Alom Chowdhury and Advocate Zahid Bepary.
About two hundred display and selling outlets were set up in the fortnight long fair where all varieties of handicrafts were available besides various sources of amusements and recreations including circus.
Another attraction of the fair was holding of regular cultural functions on ‘Jasim Mancha’ by a number of cultural troupes of this locality, reports BSS from Faridpur.
