The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Sunday) placed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rajib Ahsan on fresh remand of five days in three cases. Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the latest remand order in three sabotage cases filed with Shahbagh Police Station of the capital.Meanwhile, the police produced the pro-BNP student leader to the court and sought 30 days remand in three cases, ten in each case, while the court granted two days’ remand each in two cases and another day in the remaining sabotage case after hearing. However, some pro-BNP lawyers, sought cancellation of the remand pleas and bail of the accused.
On August 12, the CMM Court granted sixteen days’ police remand of Rajib in eight cases filed with Paltan Police Station and that remand is yet to be completed. Before that, he was put on another 16 days’ remand and then police had appealed to the court for 80 days of remand for interrogating Rajib in eight cases filed on the charges of arson attack, vandalism and sabotage.
The JCD chief and five others were arrested on charge of possessing Yaba tablets at Patuakhali last month. – Special Correspondent
