Jagannath University (JnU) authorities on Thursday suspended a teacher for three years on charge of sexually harassing some female students. The punitive action was taken against Mir Mosharraf Hossain, assistant professor of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department.
The decision was taken at a Syndicate meeting held at the Vice-chancellor’s office, said JnU VC Dr Mizanur Rahman at a press conference at his office around 7pm.
Earlier, the JnU authorities relieved the accused teacher of taking classes as the allegations were primarily proved against him.
Eight female students of the department lodged separate complaints against the teacher to the university authorities.
Later, a five-member committee was formed to probe the incident. The committee submitted its report to the Vice-chancellor on April 12. During investigation, the committee found the allegations to be true.
