Journalist Ataus Samad, recalled, eulogised


Noted journalist and former leader of the journalist community Kamal Lohani said on Monday that the works of Ataus Samad should be preserved as an asset for the development of the journalists’ skills and practical knowledge.He made the remark while addressing a program organised by the Ataur Samad Smriti Parishad in observance of his fourth death anniversary of on Monday at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.
Presided over by Prof. Dr. Sakhawat Ali Khan, the function was also addressed by Shaukat Mahmud, Abdul Hye Sikder, M Abdullah and Mostafa Kamal Majumder Among others.
The speakers recalled Ataur Samad’s unique qualities as a passionate journalist who always ran after accuracy and his role to secure rights of journalists and the vital activism for the independence of Bangladesh and the part played in the ’90s anti-junta movement.
Journalist Ataus Samad was born in Mymensigh on November 16 in 1937 and died on September 26, in 2012, at a hospital in Dhaka.
He worked at BBC for more than 12 years and also worked in different Bangla and English dailies. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1992 for his contribution.
