Journalist Nazimuddin Mostan passes away, Khaleda condoles

DHAKA: Eminent journalist Nazim Uddin Mostan passed away at his residence at Mirpur in city on Sunday afternoon.He was 67. Nazim Uddin Mostan was a legend in the arena of journalism. He worked in daily Ittefaq till 1998. Earlier he worked at daily Sangbad and the daily Paygam.
Nazimuddin Mostan started his profession in journalism in the late sixties and retired in 2009, several years after a strike [artially paralysed his body.
During the closing years of his journalism he had brought out the Weekly Rastra which earned his recognition at home and abroad. He was awarded Ekushey Padak for his contribution to Journalism/
His Namaz-e-Janaza was held after Esha prayer at the Mirpur Journalists Residential Area. His professional colleagues, relatives and admirers were present. Among them was the former Mayor of Dhaka City Corporation, Sadek Hossain Khoka, former Minister Syed Deedar Bakht, eminent business leader Abdul Haq, Political leader Ehsanul Kabir, Editor of greenwatch Dhaka inline newepaper Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Press Club general secretary Syed Abdal Ahmed, Jurnalist union leaders Ruhul Amin Gazi, M Abdullah, Baquer Hossain and Khorshed Alam.
After the Namaz-e-Janaza the mortal remains of Nazimuddin Mostan was laid to rest at the Mirpur section 11 graveyard of Dhaka City Corporation.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the death of Nazim Uddin Mastan.
In a condolence message, she said Mastan highlighted social, political and economical issues in an objective way which will be instances of learning for the future generation.
Terming Mastan a legendary in the field of journalism, Khaleda said he was the frontrunner in all democratic movements, including struggle for the country’s independence.
The former premier prayed for salvation of the departed soul and expressed her sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
In a separate condolence message, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fkahrul Islam Alamgir also condoled the death of  Nazim Uddin Mastan.
