A parliamentary watchdog on Monday formed a four-member subcommittee to look into the alleged corruption in procuring three ships and an ambulance and other irregularities by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA). The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Shipping Ministry from its 43rd meeting formed the subcommittee with its member Samsul Haque Chowdhury as its convener. The other members are Manoranjan Shil Gopal, Mazaharul Islam Prdhan and M Nazrul Islam Babu. The panel has been asked to come up with its report in the next meeting of the standing committee. Meanwhile, parliamentary watchdog finalised its report on the Payra Port Authority Bill 2013. The bill was placed in parliament on October 23 and sent to the standing committee for further scrutiny. The committee also recommended that draft policy of the private inland container naval terminal construction be placed at its next meeting after finalisation. With committee chairman whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury in the chair, the meeting was attended, among others, by its members Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Manoranjan Shil Gopal, Mazaharul Islam Pradahn, Golam Kibria Tipu, Samsul Haque Chowdhury and M Nazrul Islam Babu. – UNB
