Dhaka – The authority of Jahangirnagar University (JU) accorded a fresher’s reception on Wednesday (Wednesday) for honors first year of 2015-16 academic sessions here at the campus.
Prof Abdul Mannan Chairman of University Grant Commission (UGC) inaugurated the programme as the chief guest, presided over by JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam.
While addressing Prof Abdul Mannan said, now Bangladesh made progress in all sectors’s especially in education sector. The present number of students in Bangladesh is more than some western countries total population, which is very amazing for our nation.
‘Ragging is a bad western culture which is seen in JU campus which is regrettable’ he added. Prof Mannan also urged the students to alart about ragging.
Prof Farzana Islam said Jahangirnagar University has a good image in the country. She urged the student to come forward and develop ths University all over the world.
Among others JU Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Abul Hossain, Tragarer Prof Abul Khair, Registrar Abu Bakar Siddique, Proctor Prof Tapan Kumar Shaha, Director of JU Student Welfare and Counseling Center Prof Rasheda Akhtar, Dean of Different faculties were present at the programme among others.
About 1975 student have been admitted to 38 departments and 2 institutions. Their class began on last March 12. – JU Correspondent
