JU swimming pool abandoned for 20 years


The swimming pool of Jahangirangar University (JU) has been dumped for twenty years and become rather a drain for lack of attention of JU authorities.
Students are going another pond or lake which are deep and unfit for swimming and have caused several accidents. Few months ago, a third year student of Archeology department went to swimm in a deep pond beside the University teachers’ club and drowned.JU sources said, in the evening the swimming pool area becomes a free space for drug addicts, snatchers and general students suffered as a result.
Physical Education office is unable to prevent these crimes as the gate and the wall of the area are not adequately high.
The director of swimming pool Md. Sifatullah said, if the oll has required facilities they could have avoid such unexpected drowning of swimers. About TK 2 core is needed to fully repair the swimming pool, he said.
Mizanur Rahman, a second year student of Geology department said, we are deprived of the opportunity of such a fantastic exercise, but the authorities look like having no headache to repair the pool.
President of JU Chhatra Union Dipanjan Shidhanto Kajol said, it is entirely due to negligence of the University authority. When we talk about the issue they mention lack of allocation. On the other hand every year they allot illegally about TK 3 core as subsidies to the JU School and College for purposes of the teacher-officials Children.
JU Registrar Abu Bakar Siddique said they were trying to repair the swimming pool and have already applied to Government. ‘We would start recovery of the place after allocation are available, he added. – JU Correspondent
