JU Teacher sacked for sexual harassment

Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities has sacked a teacher on charges of sexual harassment brought against him by several female students of his department about one and a half years ago.
JU registrar Abu Bakar Siddiqe said the JU syndicate on Thursday night came up with the decision against AKM Anisuzzaman, a lecturer of Accounting and Information System Department, as they found him guilty of sexually harassing a number of female students of the department.Earlier on September 14, 2013, several students of the department lodged a complaint with the university’s anti-sexual harassment cell against the teacher.
On August 23, 2014 the JU syndicate suspended the teacher as per the recommendation of a probe body that was formed following the lodging of the complaint,
Later, another probe committee, headed by JU vice chancellor Farzana Islam, was formed for further investigation into the matter.
Finally on Thursday last, the syndicate terminated the accused teacher from the university based on the committee’s report.- UNB
