The campus unrest owes its origin to a May-26 road accident that killed two JU students. General students of the university demonstrated over the death of their two fellows and put barricade on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. At one stage, police resorted to lathi charge and firing of rubber bullets and teargas canisters to disperse them which left 10 injured including a journo.
Later, the agitating students vandalized JU VC’s residence in protest. Because of the unrest situation, the authorities shut down the campus on May 28 and lodged a case against 56 students accusing them of assaulting teachers with an attempt to murder. – JU Correspondent
