Khaleda sued for comments on Joy

A Dhaka court on Sunday morning directed the Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station to investigate into BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia’s statement accusing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy of alleged siphoning $300 million, and to take necessary action.Earlier, AB Siqqiqui, President of Jananetri Parishad, filed a case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka and after hearing the complainant Magistrate Abullah Al Masud passed the order.
The case docket says, on May 01, while accusing the government of plundering public money in the name of development, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said the Awami League siphoned off Tk30,000 crore over the last seven years. She came up with the allegation while addressing a workers’ rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on the day.
“The ruling party often talks about development…they’ve plundered more public money than what they spent on development. Now they’re taking mega projects in the name of development and looting huge money. Awami League has plundered Tk 30,000 crore over the last seven years,” she said there.
Khaleda Zia added, journalist Shafik Rehman was arrested and put on remand as he collected some information about Prime Minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s involvement in siphoning off Tk2,500 crore equivalent to $ 300 million.
“As a journalist, he gathered the information. But, he (Shafik) neither disclosed that nor written anything with that. You couldn’t have known about Tk 2,500 crore had he been not arrested” she said. – Special Correspondent
